Article/Source

Article topics will be given on a weekly basis. The topics will be based on the day of the week. Monday - Cops, Tuesday - Courts, Wednesday - Corrections, Friday - Laws or technology in criminal justice

Meets Standards

The article is current(within 12 months)and related to the assigned criminal justice topic for that student.The article contains at least 4 paragraphs. The article (cut out or photocopied) was submitted with Current Events report.
Approaching Standards

The article/source submitted is either not current (older than 12 months), is from an invalid source (must be newspaper, magazine, trade journal or internet news source), is not about the assigned topic, or is too short in order to fulfill the requirements stated.
Below Standards

The article/source is two or more of the incorrect listings noted in Level 3 criteria and/or was not submitted with Current Events report.
Does Not Meet Standards

The article/source chosen has no relevance to the student's assigned weekly topic.
Summary

Meets Standards

The summary is written in a minimum of 2 paragraphs which
contains at least 5-6 sentences each. The main
idea of the article is clear and source is unplagiarized (quoted if necessary).
Approaching Standards

The summary paragraphs are
written in fewer than 2 paragraphs
OR
A summary of the main idea and important details is included, but lacking clarity or specifics of the article.
Below Standards

The summary paragraph is written in fewer than 2 paragraphs
AND
A summary of the main idea and important details is lacking clarity.
Does Not Meet Standards

The summary is not written in 2 paragraphs but is simply listed or is not done at all.
Response/Application

Meets Standards

Your reaction (reflection writing) to the article is one paragraph (at least 3-5 sentences), and explains your reflection of how this is important to the criminal justice field based on the information in your article.
Approaching Standards

ONE requirement needed to meet standards was not met.
Requirement not met:

Detailed in less than 3-5 sentences.
Not completed at all.
Below Standards

Both of the requirements needed to meet standards are not met.

Response/Application is missing from report.
Audience

Meets Standards

Student is an actively listener during other presentations. The student is paying attention and are being respectful to the person presenting. Questions asked are appropriate for the current topic.
Approaching Standards

The student is somewhat distracted, but is making an attempt to be an active listener. The student is being respectful to the presenter. Questions asked are appropriate for the current topic.
Below Standards

The student is allowing themself to be distracted and is not an active listener during the presentation. The student is showing very little respect to the presenter. Questions asked are off topic.
Does Not Meet Standards

The student is completely distracted or is being a distraction to others showing no respect to the presenter. Questions asked are off topic.
