A FAIR performance is one that shows some mastery of concepts.

A GOOD performance is one that shows an adequate amount of mastery of concepts.

Excellent

An EXCELLENT performance is one that shows complete or stedy growth toward mastery of concepts.

Tempo

Is the tempo too fast, too slow, or at an apppropriate speed for the level of the performer?

Poor

The tempo is too fast or slow for the level of the performer.
Fair

The tempo is still not right for the level of the perfomer, but is better.
Good

The tempo is at a semi-appropriate level for the performer, but could still improve.
Excellent

The tempo is just right for the level of the performer.
Rhythm

Is the rhythm accurate or inaccurate?

Poor

The rhythm is completely inaccurate. The performer has difficulty reading rhythms.
Fair

The rhythm is sitll highly inaccurate with some minor imrpovements.
Good

The rhythm is at an accpetable level, but could still be improved.
Excellent

The rhythm is nearly outstanding in every detail.
Recognition

Can the performer identify the key concepts in the song, as decribed in the chapter?

Poor

The performer does not recognize any major part of the music.
Fair

The performer can identify some minor aspects of the music.
Good

The perfoermer can identify moast aspects of the music.
Excellent

The performer can identify every aspect of the music.
Notes

Are the notes accurate or inaccurate?

Poor

The performer cannot play the correct notes.
Fair

The performer still cannot play the notes completely correct, but has minor improvements.
Good

The performer can play the notes with some ease.
Excellent

The perfomer can play 98%-100% of the notes correctly with ease.
Balance

Is the brick (LH) and feather (RH) rule followed. (Is the accompaniment louder than the melody?

Poor

The performer does not use any consistent balance. the "brick and feather" rule is not followed at all.
Fair

The performer uses little to no balance. very little of the "brick and feather" rule is used.
Good

The perfromer uses a good amount of balance. improvements could still be made
Excellent

The performer has mastery of the "brick and feather" rule. The accompaniment does not outshine the melody.
