6th grade evaluation on fundamentals of dribbling a basketball. Students are Rated and scored on the mechanics of the skill. Students are scored at 9 possible points. Scoring in the Advanced range gains extra credit.

Dribbling hand is spread wide, ball contacts all five of the finger/thumb pads. Yo-yo the ball up and down with a hard push. Bend at the wrist.

Dribbles successfully on both left and right hands. Ball contacts pads and is pushed to the floor effortlessly and smoothly.

Ball dribbles of the foot more than once.
Developing
Needs to work on a dribbling down court without loosing the ball due to miss step.
Gaining ability to dribble on the move, 3 man weave, and game like situation.
Proficient
Ball is dribbled near the feet to keep control. Student can dribble and move about the court without disruption of the dribble.
Advanced
Dribbles the ball effortlessly in a number of situations: stationary, moving down the court, around a defensive player, immediately prior to a shot on goal.

Needs Improvement
Unable to dribble without eyes focused on the dribble.
Developing
Gaining ability to look away from the dribbling action. Needs practice to improve ability to focus us court.
Proficient
Looking up court, not at the dribbling action. Can transition in the dribble without focusing on that transition.
Advanced
Able to transfer ball right to left, left to right without watching the dribble action.
