Number/relevance of details	level 1 - retells few of the main idea	level 2 - retells some of the main ideas including supporting details	level 3 - summarizes most of the main idea and includes supporting details	level 4 - summarizes and interprets all main ideas and supporting details
Voice - author's own words	level 1 - contains words directly from the text	level 2 - some words are from the text as well as student's	level 3 - contains appropriate words from text and student's own words	level 4 - contains ideas expressed concisely in student's own words which does expand on the concepts
Word Use / Vocabualary	level 1 - contains limited vocabualry	level 2 - some variety of vocabulary	level 3 - good variety of vocabulary	level 4 - extensive vocabulary used correctly and effectively
Sentence Variety (structure, type and length)	level 1 - has little sentence variety - uses simple sentences in type and length	level 2 - has some sentence variety - uses mostly simple sentences in type and lengths	level 3 - has good variety of sentences - uses simple and more complex sentence structure, type and length	level 4 - has extensive variety of sentences used effectively
