Descriptive Writing Rubric Descriptive Writing Rubric Students will describe a picture in the present tense to create a descriptive writing. Writing will be graded on capitalization, punctuation, use of main idea and supporting details, spelling of high frequency words, plural noun use, verbs and descriptive words. Main Idea & Details The type of picture is mentioned as well as any title or words on the picture.	Above Grade Level The type of picture and main idea of the picture is clear in the writing. Title is included.	On Grade Level The type of picture or the main idea of the picture is clear in the writing. The title may be included.	Approaching Grade Level The type of picture and main idea of the picture is mentioned briefly in the writing. Title is not included. Grammar Correct grammar is used	Above Grade Level The writing contains proper use of Past Tense Verbs. Use of descriptive language adds to text.
