Manifest Destiny & Westward Expansion Manifest Destiny & Westward Expansion Students are required to take classroom data as well as credible out side sources for the process of forming an opinion as to whether it was right or okay for the American settler to move west under the Manifest Destiny vision. Students will work on group presentations. These presentations will be presented to the class via poster or power point and should not go over the 5 minute limit. Power points, posters need to include pictures, maps, symbols and solid academic writing. 	Below Average (F) 25 pts	Average (C) 50 pts	Excellent (A) 75 pts
Content	Below Average (F) Very little sources sited and lacks key words presented in classroom discussions. Poorly put together.	Average (C) Utilizes some classroom data with 2 or more cited sources. Content is not completely accurate.	Excellent (A) Ability to utilizes classroom data as well as at least three or more cited sources to complete poster or power point. All the key words are included in the presentation. Uses good grammar and proper citations.
Explanation of Ideology	Below Average (F) Lacks a sufficient explanation of the ideology associated with social movement. Historically inaccurate.	Average (C) Contains a brief explanation of the ideology associated with social movement. May be historically inaccurate.	Excellent (A) Contains a detailed explanation of the ideology associated with social movement. Is historically accurate.
Visual Graphics	Below Average (F) Lacks a photo, symbol of picture relating to topic.	Average (C) Includes a photo, symbol or pictures relating to the topic - but it is not appropriate or historically correct. Includes 3 or more visuals.	Excellent (A) Includes accurate historical photos, pictures and symbols related to topic. Includes 5 or more visuals.
Presentation	Below Average (F) No clear opinion has been decided or defended. Data is based solely off of personal bias and has no credible sources backing claims. Oral presentation range from 1-2 minutes.	Average (C) Opinion to agree or disagree has some historical accuracy, however consists primarily off of personal opinion with little credible sources. Oral presentation range from 2-3 minutes.	Excellent (A) Forms an opinion based off of accurate historical data in defending whether it was okay for American settlers to move out west and slowly push the Native Americans from their home land. Oral presentation meets the required time limit. 5 minutes
