Using Measures & Equations: THEME POSTER CONTEST Did you know that Americans eat 100 acres of pizza each day? That is enough pizza to carpet just about all the floors in all 110 stories of Chicago's Sears Tower In order to understand the magnitude of very large or small counts and measures, they can be related to something whose size is known. Students will create a poster representing interesting numerical facts that make them easier to understand. Students will work cooperatively, creating a poster based on a mathematical theme, or a topic from another class. When it is finished, the poster will present four numerical facts with four questions that can be answered using these facts and an equation that can be solved to fined another interesting fact. To decide how well students explained magnitudes, the class will hold a contest. All posters will be displayed and the class will judge the posters based on standards chosen in advance. Standards 4.5A,B,C,D,E	Poor The poster does not clearly relate clearly to the understanding of MAGNITUDE or is incomplete.l	Fair The poster's theme relates somewhat clearly enough to the understanding of MAGNITUDE. It is adequate.	Good The poster clearly relates to a theme and is visually appealing through neat and ledgible work.
Standards 4.1B&C, 4.2D&E, 4.3B&D	Poor The facts and details are incomplete.	Fair Not all facts are represented in an interesting way or are incomplete.	Good The theme poster includes a counting fact, a measurement fact, a percent fact, and a very large or small number.
Standards 4.1BC, 4.2DE, 4.3BD	Poor The questions and equations are minimally acceptable.	Fair The equations written may not lead to another interesting fact and do not use the information on the poster.	Good The questions and equations are well written and use the information on the poster.
Standards 4.1BC, 4.2DE, 4.3BD	Poor Few or no written explanations are given, along with incomplete or wrong solutions.	Fair Incomplete or poorly written solutions and written explanations are given. Some may not be understandable.	Good Complete solutions and written explanations are given in regards to how solutions were arrived at.
