Melody	Excellent Uses mostly steps and few skips. Melody is centered around the designated key. Melodies are singable. Repetition and contrast is used successfully.	Good Uses mostly steps and few skips. Melody is centered around the designated key most of the time . Some melodies are singable and repetition and contrast is used most of the time.	Needs Improvement Uses some steps but many skips. The key signature is obvious in some sections but not all. Melody is occasionally singable. Occasional use of repetition and contrast.	Unsatisfactory Use of too many skips and song is not centered around the designated key. Notes are randomly placed and melody seems to make no sense.
Rhythm	Excellent Rhythmic patterns are repeated and varied forming a cohesive flow.	Good Rhythmic patterns are utilized and repeated in most sections.	Needs Improvement Rhythms are repeated occasionally and but need to be more varied. Too much repetition of the same note values.	Unsatisfactory There is too much repetition of rhythms and note values. There is not enough rhythmic variety in this piece.
Form	Excellent An obvious form is clearly indicated throughout the piece.	Good Form is present but vague in some sections.	Needs Improvement Difficult to identify form of this piece.	Unsatisfactory There is clearly no thought to form and notes seem to be written haphazardly.
