Poetry Books
	Target 3 pts	Acceptable 2 pts	Unacceptable 1 pts
5 Completed Poems	Target Students have Acrostic poem, Haiku, Lanterne, Diamante, and Simile Poem in their poetry book.	Acceptable Student is missing one of the five poems.	Unacceptable Student is missing more than one of the five poems.
Appearance	Target Poems are written neatly on clean pages.	Acceptable Poems are legible and fairly neat, but there may be some visible eraser marks.	Unacceptable Poems are illegible and messy.
Acrostic	Target Poem represents their name and has a variety of thoughtful adjectives to describe the student.	Acceptable Poem uses some thoughtful adjectives, but some letters may have one word or simple descriptions.	Unacceptable All letters are represented by simple one word adjectives that required little thought.
Haiku	Target Haiku is based on the nature theme and follows the correct syllable pattern.	Acceptable Haiku follows the correct syllable pattern but may be on another theme besides nature.	Unacceptable Haiku does not follow the nature theme or traditional syllable pattern.
Diamante	Target Poem follows diamante pattern of comparing opposites using adjectives and participles.	Acceptable Poem describes opposites, but has one or two errors with the word structure.	Unacceptable Poem does not describe two opposites, and has more than two errors within the word structure.
Simile Poem	Target Student wrote 3 similes and a conclusion sentence about someone that means alot to them. There was a variety of similes used.	Acceptable Students used three similes but used	Unacceptable Similes were not used. If similies were used, they were too vague or did not make sense.
Lanterne	Target Poem follows traditional pattern of Lanterne poem. Poem makes sense and is on the cut out pattern.	Acceptable Poem follows pattern for Lanterne poem. Poem might be a bit hard to understand and not on the pattern.	Unacceptable Poem is not in Lanterne form and the final copy is not on the pre-cut pattern.
Illustrations	Target Poems were illustrated with thougtful and appropriate pictures.	Acceptable Illustrations were appropriate but may be a bit overwhelming.	Unacceptable The poems were not illustrated. If they were illustrated, the pictures were not thought out and take away from the meaning of the poem.
Mechanics	Target Poems are grammatically correct. There are no spelling, punctuation, or capitalization errors.	Acceptable There are one to three grammatical errors throughout the poem book.	Unacceptable There are more than three grammatical errors within the poetry book.
