Body Position

Enter description

Good

-Head is in line with the spine, looking at a 45 degree angle towards the bottom of the pool
-the entire body stays straight (good posture)
-body rotates with every arm pull(head does not rotate, stays in same position).
Fair

-head slightly out of position
-body swerves slightly, causing the swimmer to swim in slight serpentine instead of straight
-very little rotation
Poor

-Head moves, looking toward side and forward above surface of the water.
-body is torqued, swimmer swims in obvious serpentine instead of a straight line.
-body does not rotate, swimmer looks like they are crawling in the water with the arms only.
Arm Pull

-Smooth, and efficient catch, mid-pull, and finish.
-S-pull
-Fingers closed, and hand cupped slightly
-Very little splash, or bubbles under water
Fair

-Smooth, but not efficient
-pulls straight through water, does not use s-pull
-moderate splash and bubbles under water
Poor

-Not smooth or efficient
-makes thrashing movements
-a lot of splash, and bubbles.
Kick

Good

-smooth,consistent speed, and powerful
-small, fast, legs should not come apart more than 5-6 inches
Fair

-Speed of kick changes when the swimmer breaths
-legs come farther than 6 inches apart
Poor

-Speed changes often
-legs come very far apart, maybe even using a scissor kick when breathing.
