Task Completion	Exceeds expectations Student is able to complete the communicative task without much difficulty. Throughout the conversation, student keeps the language exchange on task.	Meets Expectations The student has some difficulty keeping the language exchange on task. At times, the conversation drifts to another topic, but the student gets back on track.	Not there yet The student makes little effort to start or continue the language exchange. Little or no attempt to get back on track.
Comprehensibility	Exceeds expectations Although there is some English interference, the student can be understood. S/he also understands his/her partner's speech. Tries to negotiate meaning when necessary.	Meets Expectations The student's speech is difficult to understand at times, but the meaning is conveyed. The student attempts to negotiate meaning when understanding is difficult.	Not there yet The student's speech is mostly incomprehensible. S/he answers questions with the wrong answer and does not attempt to correct mistakes or negotiate meaning.
Language Control	Exceeds expectations The student's speech contains enough vocabulary and correct verb forms to convey clear ideas. There are few mistakes that can lead to miscommunication.
