Separating a Mystery Mixture

Identify and Describe Substances. Partners will accurately identify and describe the solids and/or liquids that make up the mixture.	Below Standard Partners unable to identify the substances in the mixture.	Partially Meets Standard One substance is accurately identified and described.	Meets Standard Partners accurately identified and described the two substances in the mixture.
Separating Substances Partners will separate the two substances using their knowledge gained from previous experience separating mixtures.	Below Standard Substances are not separated.	Partially Meets Standard One substance is separated but students are unable to apply their understanding of evaporation to this new situation.	Meets Standard The two substances are separated using techniques learned in the unit. Students are able to apply their understanding of evaporation to a new situation.
Science Journal Each student will record and describe observations clearly and using details for each activity. Drawings are labeled, colored and include details. The student did not require the full attention of the teacher to solve a problem.
