	Inadequate 4 pts	Adequate 7 pts	Advanced 10 pts
Quality of Argumentation Evaluation of how arguments are crafted using critical thinking and logical reasoning (i.e. paying attention to one's own use of logical fallacies and identifying them in others).	Inadequate Argumentation is weak or illogical.	Adequate Argumentation is sufficiently logical.	Advanced Argumentation is strong and logical.
Evidence Substantiation Evaluation of how evidence is provided and used to support arguments.	Inadequate Evidence is not provided or is weak or faulty.	Adequate Evidence is provided and used to support and substantiate the argument.	Advanced Evidence is provided and used to support and substantiate the argument effectively.
Clarity & Organization Structure Evaluation of how ideas are conveyed by students using language, articulation, and tone.	Inadequate Language is unclear, ideas are unfocused- difficult for viewers to follow.	Adequate Language is clear, and ideas are focused.	Advanced Language is clear and compelling, ideas are persuasively presented.
Debate Structure & Rules Evaluation of how well students follow the Public Forum (Mini-Round) Debate format.	Inadequate The student fails to follow the prescribed debate structure and/or abide by the rules.	Adequate The student follows the prescribed debate structure and abides by the rules.	Advanced The student shows a high level of intentionality and skill in tailoring their remarks to be suitable for each portion of the debate, i.e. (distinguishing between introduction vs rebuttal-style speeches)
Respect & Regulation Evaluation of how appropriately students conduct themselves during the debate.	Inadequate The student fails to show respect to other classmates in their speech and body language OR the student fails to take responsibility for self-regulation of their emotional responses.	Adequate The student shows respect to other classmates in their speech and body language. The student takes responsibility for self-regulation of their emotional responses.	Advanced The student goes above and beyond to show respect, co-operation and collegiality to other classmates in their speech and body language. The student takes responsibility for self-regulation of their emotional responses and helps to support others as well.
