Technique

Posture, hand placement, wrist position, finger technique.

Poor

The lack of performance technique severely hinders the performance. Does not know where to position the seat. Finger and wrist positions are detrimental to good playing.
Minimal

Minimal performance technique, slouches. Student plays on the flat part of their fingers and drops their wrists often.
Developing

Posture acceptable, technique acceptable. Sounds better than it looks. The fingers are curved and the wrists are flexible most of the time.
Proficient

Student sat tall and on the front of the bench, used curved fingers and elevated wrists. Student played on the tips of the fingers.
Advanced

Excellent posture and bench/seat placement, Excellent finger technique/hand placement. Student was expressive in the use of the hand placement and body movement while playing.
Accuracy

Notes and musical signs

Poor

The listener cannot tell this is a cohesive piece of music. The performer cannot find the correct notes. The performer has to figure out notes while performing.
Minimal

Some mistakes, facial expression draws attention to mistakes, poor recovery or stopped to correct mistakes.
Developing

Some mistakes, slow recovery, audience may be aware of mistakes.
Proficient

Minimal mistakes made but with quick recovery and did not stop to correct mistakes. Mistakes did not stop the flow of the music.
Advanced

No audible mistakes. Articulations are played accurately as well as expressively.
Tempo and Rhythms

Steadiness of tempo and rhythmic accuracy.

Poor

Several rhythmic errors and tempo was not sustained at all. Rhythmic errors completely interrupt the flow of the music rendering the piece senseless.
Minimal

Rhythms are not consistently in proportion with each other. Student slows down and speeds up more than once.
Developing

Rhythms are in proportion to each other most of the time. Tempo is steady most of the time Student slowed down for difficult sections only 1 time.
Proficient

Rhythms are in proportion to each other. Tempo is steady throughout. Student does not speed up for easy parts and slow down for difficult sections
Advanced

Great rhythm and tempo right on, very expressive. Dynamics are added where appropriate.
