Introduction and Conclusion

Excellent

The introduction and conclusion work perfectly. They reinforce your meaning. Your topic and your judgment are clear. The introduction and conclusion speak to the reader.
Good

The introduction and conclusion act like bookends. However, some of the "moves" your textbook recommends are not present, or the introduction and conclusion do not engage the reader.
Needs Improvement

The introduction and the conclusion do not act like bookends. Your major point remains unclear.
Description

Excellent

The description of the plot gives us the information we need. The additional description of characters or setting supports the main idea. The description is engaging and effective.
Good

The description and/or dialogue is appropriate. However, it is not convincing because it feels stereotyped and trite due to poorly chosen vocabulary or lack of sensory details.
Needs Improvement

Either there is almost no description and/or dialogue, or it is poorly developed and misapplied. In consequence, we find it hard to become involved with the memoir.
Discussion

Excellent

The writer explains the issues that lead to the judgment. The choice of issues seem reasonable. The issues are clearly developed. The writer is persuasive.
Good

All the bases are covered, but either the writer is still not persuasive, or the issues do not seem reasonable. The problem is one of degree and not quality.
Needs Improvement

Something is missing. Either the issues are not explained, or the connection between the issues and the judgment are not made well.
Expression

Excellent

The writer creates sentences and chooses vocabulary that wonderfully evoke the material. Our attention is engaged by the writing. If there are grammar mistakes they are trivial: we do not notice them.
Good

The writer explains the material well. Sometimes there are mistakes in the writing which we notice. The writing just doesn't engage the reader.
Needs Improvement

There are too many mistakes in the prose. In addition, the style of the writing is difficult and/or clumsy.
Citation/Integration

Excellent

Correctly formatted and identified the movie
"Crash."
Good

Id the movie but did not consistently id correctly.
Needs Improvement

No correct identification of the movie.
