Catches the eye	Poor The totem does nothing to attract attention to itself. It can be small, it is not 3 dimensional, and/or monochromatic. The totem looks as though little time was spent creating it.	Fair The totem has some color, is 3 dimensional, and/or is not so small. It is easy to see that students took some time creating the totem pole.	Excellent The totem is large with 3 dimensional figures. The students have utilized color and other objects to make their totem pole stand out. Students took most of the class time creating this totem pole.
Explanations	Poor There are little to no explanations of the objects chosen on the totem poles.	Fair Students have provided some evidence of an explanation as to why they have chosen an object to be on their totem pole. Some of the explanations are very vague and could use more detail.	Excellent Students provided a thorough explanations as to why they have chosen an object to be on their totem pole. The explanations are very thorough and clear.
