	EXCELLENT 4 pts	GOOD 3 pts	FAIR 2 pts	POOR 1 pts
SPELLING	EXCELLENT Spelling is correct.	GOOD Spelling is usually correct on common words.	FAIR Spelling errors are frequent and repeated.	POOR Spelling gets in the way of understanding the content.
PUNCTUATION	EXCELLENT The punctuation is accurate, even adds to the meaning of the content.	GOOD Punctuation is accurate.	FAIR Punctuation is random, and the basic rules aren't followed.	POOR Punctuation awareness is not evident.
GRAMMAR AND USAGE	EXCELLENT Grammar and usage are alway correct. An adjective or suffix is used frequently.	GOOD Grammar and usage are good. A suffix or adjective is used most of the times.	FAIR Problems with grammar and usage are serious enough to distort the meaning. Suffixes and adjectives are not used throughtout.	POOR Errors in grammar and usage are very evident.
WORD CHOICE	EXCELLENT Words are powerful and engaging - lively and striking.	GOOD Words are accurate and clear in a general sense; student attempts colorful language.	FAIR Words and phrases are simplistic and functional - the first thing that popped into the reader's mind.	POOR Words are nonspecific and distracting - language is used incorrectly, unimaginative, lifeless, and repetitive.
ILLUSTRATIONS	EXCELLENT Illustrations are meaningful and apply to text.	GOOD Illustrations are meaningful but do not necessarily follow text.	FAIR Illustrations are apparent, but they are not relelvant to the story.	POOR There are no illustrations.
