Literature Circle Rubric
	Below average 1 pts	Adequate 2 pts	Exceptional 3 pts
Character Study	Below average Student cannot describe how a character might have felt at a certain point in the story.	Adequate Student is able to describe how a character might have felt at a certain point in the story, but is NOT able to provide details to support this claim.	Exceptional Student describes how a character might have felt at a certain point in the story, and provides several details to support this claim.
Comprehension	Below average Student has trouble understanding and/or remembering parts of the story.	Adequate Student understands and remembers parts of the story, but is only able to answer 1 or 2 questions about the story.	Exceptional Student understands and remembers the entire story and can accurately answer more than 4 questions correctly.
Staying on Task and following along	Below average Student is on the wrong page or is reading ahead or behind the person who is reading aloud.	Adequate Student is on the correct page and seems to read along with the person who is reading aloud, but gets distracted by looking at the reader or pictures.	Exceptional Student is on the correct page and is actively reading along with the person who is reading and can easily find place when called upon to read.
Respecting Others	Below average Student interrupts often by making comments, noises, or whispering that are distracting for others.	Adequate Student occasionally interrupts or causes a distraction.	Exceptional Student listens quietly, does not interrupt, and does not distract other students with movement or noises.
Participation	Below average Student does not willing participate in group activities.	Adequate Student does not volunteer, but will answer questions when called upon.	Exceptional Student regularly volunteers to answer questions and willingly provides responses when asked questions.
