Not Yet Meets Expectations
Composition is not simple: cluttered background, difficult to identify the subject. Tonal and border mergers present. Subject is located at the centre. Lines and shapes in picture may draw viewer's eye away from the subject. Photograph is not in focus. Sentence is incomplete and difficult to decipher.
Minimally Meets Expectations
Composition is somewhat simple: may have a slightly cluttered background, subject may be somewhat difficult to identify. Composition contains either tonal mergers or background mergers. Subject is located off centre, but not on of of the rule of thirds cross hairs. Little use of lines or shapes to draw viewer's eye to the subject. Photograph is somewhat blurry. Spelling and grammar errors interfere with reader's understanding of sentence meaning.
Fully Meets Expectations
Composition of photograph is simple: uncluttered background, subject is obvious. Composition is mostly free of both tonal and background mergers. Subject is located on one of the rule of thirds cross hairs. May use negative space to make subject stand out. Some use of lines and shapes to draw viewer's eye to the subject. Photograph is in focus. Sentence gives a clear description of photograph. Spelling and grammar do not detract from understanding sentence.
Exceeds Expectations
Simple composition: background complements subject, subject "jumps" out at viewer. Composition completely free of mergers. Subject creatively located in photograph using the rule of thirds. May show creative use of negative space. Uses lines and shapes in background to effectively draw the viewer's eye to the subject. Photograph is in focus and shows depth of field. Two or more sentences thoughfully tell how subject represents an aspect of Cut Knife. Spelling and grammar are perfect.
