Evaluation
Director

1

Casting takes long, director allows too much discussion over parts leaving not enough time for reading.
2

Casting takes a few minutes, but everyone is soon clear about their parts and move in to reading. Records starting page, offers next lines.
3

Reads list of parts available, takes down names in quiet, turn-taking and orderly fashion. Records starting and ending pages, dates. Follows text and offers cues or next lines if an actor loses their place.
Narration/Stage Direction

1

Reads narration and direction inconsistently, needs peer or teacher support to stay on time with cues and lines.
2

Reads narration and stage direction fairly consistently, may sometimes be too quiet or too loud, assists the director in keeping things moving if they slow down or get distracted.
3

reads all narration and stage direction clearly and completely, allowing actors to get a sense of the scene. If an actor skips ahead, allows the interruption, reminds at the end of the reading that stage directions are included.
Actor's listening

1

Listens occasionally, chats while other actors are reading, does not follow the text with eyes consistently, distracts actors and other groups. Needs to be reminded by peers or teacher to read or follow.
2

Listens most of the time, does not chat, occasionally corrects other actors' pronunciation or makes observations quietly to a friend.
3

Stays focused on reading and listening to fellow actors, offers help if asked but otherwise lets actors try their best.
Actor's voice

1

Avoids reading altogether, or reads so quietly as to not be heard, or reads in a distracting way
2

Reads in a voice that is sometimes too quiet or too loud, but generally stays on track and follows his or her part on cue.
3

Reads with clear voice that varies as needed with the character and to be heard by fellow actors, but not distracting to other groups. Creativity is evident but not overbearing
