DNA Transcription and Translation Video
Students will use video editing or animation technology to create a video detailing the processes of transcription and translation. The particulars of how to create this video are up to the students. They can: make step-by-step drawings and edit them together in a video; use animation to demonstrate the processes; make a stop motion film; or put on a skit. Students will receive full points for whatever method they choose, so long as it aligns with the criteria in the rubric.

Content Knowledge: Transcription

10pts

Poor

Students show that they have a poor understanding of the process of transcription. Students correctly model 25% or less of the following content in their projects: where transcription takes place; the roles of RNA polymerase; complementary base pairing; and mRNA remodeling.
Fair

Students show that they have a fair understanding of the process of transcription. Students correctly model 50% of the following content in their projects: where transcription takes place; the roles of RNA polymerase; complementary base pairing; and mRNA remodeling.
Good

Students show that they have a good understanding of the process of transcription. Students correctly model 75% of the following content in their projects: where transcription takes place; the roles of RNA polymerase; complementary base pairing; and mRNA remodeling.
Excellent

Students show that they have an excellent understanding of the process of transcription. Students correctly model all of the following content in their projects: where transcription takes place; the roles of RNA polymerase; complementary base pairing; and mRNA remodeling.
Content Knowledge: Translation

10pts

Poor

Students show that they have a poor understanding of the process of translation. Students correctly model 25% or less of the following content in their projects: where translation takes place; role of rRNA; role of tRNA; and the use of the codon table.
Fair

Students show that they have a fair understanding of the process of translation. Students correctly model 50% of the following content in their projects: where translation takes place; role of rRNA; role of tRNA; and the use of the codon table.
Good
