The character is somewhat developed, but there are inconsistencies. Student uses some descriptive details to develop the character.
Characters are somewhat interesting and have some depth.
Fair

The character is barely developed. Details are either lacking or inconsistent. Little descriptive detail is used and characters are superficial.

Provides a small amount of exposition & background about the characters & setting, but not enough. The hook is not very attention-grabbing.

Clear conflict & resolution. Clear beginning, middle & end. Story makes sense & is consistant throughout.

Excellent

Conflict is clearly depicted in the story and the story is developed around the conflict.
The story depicts a clear resolution of the conflict.
Beginning, middle, and end are clearly developed.
Good

Conflict is depicted in the story and the story is somewhat developed around the conflict.
The story depicts a resolution of the conflict, but it is somewhat vague.
Some aspects of beginning, middle, and/or end are not as developed as they could be.
Fair

Conflict is barely developed and/or unclear.
The resolution to conflict is rushed or does not necessarily fit the story around it.
Many aspects of the beginning, middle, and/or end are missing.
Poor

Conflict is vague or unclear. The story fails to adequately integrate the conflict.
Beginning, middle, and end are either unclear or inconsistent.
The story fails to depict a resolution of the conflict.
