The intonation is secure and pitches are mostly accurate. There are a few incorrect pitches or intonation errors.

Virtually no errors. All pitches are accurately performed and in tune.

Student rarely articulates the words and the text is not intelligible. Most of the performance is mumbled.

Student sometimes articulates the words, but the words of the text often lack clear beginning and ending consonant sounds.

Student articulates the words somewhat clearly and most of the text is understood. (Most of the vowels and consonants are clearly formed, but a few final consonants are missing.)

Student articulates clearly and the text is easily understood. (All vowels and consonants are clearly formed and vowels are held.)

Attention to dynamics is lacking from the performance. Performer rarely demonstrates expression, simply performing the notes.

Dynamic levels are inconsistent and performed with some interpretation, but not consistently.

Typically performs with an interpretation and style suggested by the music.

Performs with creative interpretation of the style of music. Uses accurate dynamic levels.
