Poetry Project Poetry Project Students will choose a specific topic to write a poem about. The students will go through the writing process (prewriting, drafting, editing, revising and publishing) to create a poem that contains 4 stanzas with 4 lines in each stanza. The poem will have a consistent rhyme scheme throghout the poem. The student will type their poem and paste it onto a piece of construction paper. Ideas	Poor The chosen topic is not specific or related to astronomy.	Fair The chosen topic is slightly specific and associated with astronomy.	Good The chosen topic is a specific astronomical phenomena.
Organization	Poor The poem does not contain a discernible form. (haiku, diamante, etc.)	Fair The poem has an identifiable form, but does not follow the exact rules for that form.	Good The poem has a discernible form and follows the rules of that form.
Word Choice	Poor Words are overused and not descriptive,	Fair Some overused words are included, but at least 2 words are fresh and descriptive.	Good There is a consistent use of fresh, descriptive, vivid words and phrases.
Figurative Language	Poor There is no figurative language.	Fair The figurative language is not relevant to the poem.	Good The student uses at least one figurative statement (simile, metaphor, personification).
Conventions	Poor Many words are misspelled. The poem doesn't contain correct punctuation and/or sentence structure.	Fair A few words are misspelled. The poem cotains a few mistakes in punctuation and/or sentence structure.	Good Most words are spelled correctly. The poem contains almost no mistakes in punctuation and/or sentence structure.
Presentation	Poor Final copy is sloppy and does not follow requested final copy format,	Fair Final copy is neat, but written in print instead of cursive.	Good Final copy is written in neat cursive and follows required format.
