	Emerging Student does not provide an answer or answer has no connection to story. 1 pts	Partially Proficient Student provides an answer that captures a detail of the story, but does not capture the main idea. 2 pts	Proficient Student provides an answer that fully captures the main idea of the story. 3 pts	Advanced Student creatively provides an answer that fully captures the main idea of the story. 4 pts
Draws Main Idea 4 pts Student draws a picture that captures the main idea of the story	Emerging Student does not draw a picture or draws a picture of an event that did not occur in the story.	Partially Proficient Student draws a picture of an event that captures a detail of the story, not what the story was mainly about.	Proficient Student draws a picture that shows what the story was mainly about.	Advanced Student goes beyond and above in their drawings of a picture that shows what the story was mainly about.
Writes/dictates Main Idea 4 pts Student writes/dictates a sentence that captures the main idea of the story, connecting it to picture drawn.	Emerging Student does not write/dictate an explanation of the main idea or writes/dictates a sentence about an event that did not occur in the story.	Partially Proficient Student writes/dictates a sentence about an event that explains a detail of the story, but not what the story was mainly about.
