Proficient Student demonstrates an accurate perspective on the time period demonstrated through a developed voice.	Emerging Student demonstrates a limited perspective of the time and their voice is marginally developed.	Basic The perspective of the piece doesn't reflect the time period, and there is no narrative voice.
Organization The letter is at least 3-4 complete paragraphs long, with correct spelling grammar, and organization for letter or journal.	Advanced The piece of writing is longer than 3-4 paragraphs and each paragraph is complete and flows well into each subsequent paragraph.	Proficient The piece of writing is 3-4 complete paragraphs that fit together reasonably well.	Emerging The piece of writing is 3-4 paragraphs, but their paragraphs aren't complete thoughts.	Basic The piece of writing isn't 3-4 paragraphs.
Content Student accurately reflects events, hardships, and realities of life in the colony.	Advanced Student accurately reflects events, hardships, and realities of life in the colony through creative and realistic interactions within their work.	Proficient Student demonstrates an accurate understanding of events, hardships, and realities of life in the colony.	Emerging Student demonstrates some understanding of events, hardships, and realities of life in the colony.
