Grammar and Mechanics	Fair The student uses only simple sentences to form a dialogue. There are more than 4 errors in grammar or mechanics.	Average The student can write a dialogue which consists of primarily simple sentences few compound sentences, and no complex sentences. There are 3-4 errors in grammar or mechanics.	Good The student can write a combination of simple and compound sentences to form a dialogue. There are 1-2 errors in grammar or mechanics.	Excellent The student can write a combination of simple, compound and complex sentences to form a dialogue. There are no errors in grammar or mechanics.
Dialogue Basics	Fair Lest than 50% of the elements of a dialogue are present. The writing is not always legible. Nothing about the characters has been revealed through the dialogue. No mood or personality traits are revealed in the dialogue. The dialogue doesn't go anywhere and has no sense of a beginning, middle or end.	Average 50% of the elements of a dialogue are present. The writing is mostly legible. An attempt has been made to reveal something about the characters through the dialogue. An attempt has been made to tell a story through this dialogue, but there is no beginning, middle or end --OR--one or more of these elements is not evident.
