Topic Sentence	Poor Lacks purpose or focus. Do not understand what the passage is about.	Fair Somewhat clear with purpose. Lacks some focus. Have a slight idea as to what the passage is about.	Good Clear and focused. Concise; know exactly what the passage is about.
Three Details Present	Poor Only one detail present. Lacks strength. Does not clearly relate to topic.	Fair Two details present. May be strong. Somewhat relates to topic sentence.	Good Three or more details present. Strong points. Relates directly to topic sentence.
Concluding Sentence	Poor Lacks purpose or focus. Does not relate to writing. Does not conclude ideas.	Fair Somewhat clear with focus. Relates to writing. Somewhat concludes ideas.	Good Clear with focus. Relates to writing. Concludes overall idea of writing.
