Tricky Vocabulary	Inconsistant Student may have noted no vocabulary or tricky words down. They made no attempt to make connections between the writers use of the word or research the definition.	Good Student made a note of two or three interesting words/tricky vocabulary. There is evidence that the student has either made a connection between the writers use of the word or researched the definition.	Very Good Student made a note of four or more interesting words/tricky vocabulary. There is clear evidence that the student has made useful connections between the writers use of the words or researched the definitions to improve unerstanding.
Questions/thoughts	Inconsistant The student's annotations asked questions or responded to the text superficially and/or showed limited understanding of the material.	Good The student's annotations asked questions or reacted to the text sufficiently to show an understanding of the material.	Very Good The student's annotations asked questions or responded to the text in a way that critically analyzed the text and/or showed a meaningful understanding of the material.
Themes	Inconsistant The student inadequately reflected upon the text and showed a limited understanding of the main ideas or themes.	Good The student satisfactorily reflected upon the text and showed an understanding of the main ideas or themes in the form of bullet points or concise sentences.	Very Good The student reflected upon the text and showed a thorough understanding of the main ideas or themes in the form of bullet points or concise sentences.
Summary	Inconsistant Students summary of the passage does not shows what the author is conveying to the reader. The student has not understood	Good Students summary of the passage shows what the author is conveying to the reader. It may not be concise and/or it may contain too much 'technical' facts or information.	Very Good Students summary of the passage clearly shows what the author is conveying to the reader. The summary is concise and does not contain lots of 'technical' facts and information.
