Greeting Students greet others properly Hola! Buenas Dias or Buenas Tardes!	Beginning No greeting, little-to-no effort.	Approaching Proper greeting, poor pronunciation, or Improper greeting, but good effort and pronunciation.	Proficient Proper greeting with near-perfect pronunciation.	Advanced Proper greeting with excellent pronunciation.
My name is... Students properly state "My name is..." Me llamo...	Beginning Improper statement, or none at all.	Approaching Proper statement, poor pronunciation, or Improper statement, but good effort and pronunciation.	Proficient Proper introduction with near-perfect pronunciation.	Advanced Proper introduction with excellent pronunciation.
Inquiry - How are you doing? Students inquire of the other person, How are you? "Como estas?"	Beginning Improper statement, or none at all.	Approaching Students inquire of the other person, How are you? Or What are you like? With acceptable-poor pronunciation.	Proficient Students inquire of the other person, How are you? Or What are you like? With good pronunciation and genuine interest.	Advanced Students inquire of the other person, How are you? Or What are you like? With excellent pronunciation and grammar.
Response to Inquiry about self I am fine..."Estoy bien"	Beginning Improper statement, or none at all.	Approaching Student answers how they feel, acceptable pronunciation.	Proficient Student answers how they feel, with good pronunciation and genuine interest.	Advanced Student answers how they feel, with excellent pronunciation and genuine interest
Goodbye Student properly says goodbye, good day, see you later, etc.	Beginning Improper statement or none at all.	Approaching Student has proper time and pronunciation to say goodbye. "Buenas Tardes, Adios, etc."	Proficient Student says goodbye with near-perfect pronunciation and grammar.	Advanced Student says goodbye with near-perfect pronunciation and grammar. Also student adds a leave taking phrase such as Hasta Luego, Nos Vemos, etc.
