For this ongoing assignment, students must use the teacher recommended sites (OR an approved magazine or newspaper) to choose a science news topic, summarize the main idea, reflect on the importance of the article, and present it to the class. Please refer to Sophia Bookspace for specific due dates.

The summary is a minimum of 5-6 sentences and the main idea of the article is clear and in the student's own words. Science concepts/
processes are explained when needed.
Good
The summary paragraph is fewer than 5-6 sentences
OR
A summary of the main idea and important details is lacking clarity.
Fair
The summary paragraph is fewer than 5-6 sentences
AND
A summary of the main idea and important details is lacking clarity.
Poor/Incomplete
The summary is not written in paragraph format or is not done at all.
Student Reaction/Reflection
Outstanding
The reaction/ reflection is at least 4-5 sentences and clearly addresses how the article impacts people's everyday lives AND/OR how it could impact our future.
Good
The reaction/ reflection 4-5 sentences long and only somewhat addresses how the article impacts people's everyday lives OR how it could impact our future.
Fair
The reaction/ reflection is less than 4 sentences and does not address how the article impacts people's everyday lives OR how it could impact our future.
Poor/Incomplete
Student reflection/ response is missing from the report.
Audience
Outstanding
Student is an active listener during other presentations. The student is paying attention and is being respectful to the person presenting. Questions asked are appropriate for the current topic.
Good
The student is somewhat inattentive, but is being respectful to the presenter. Questions asked (if any) are appropriate for the current topic.
Fair
The student is inattentive and showing very little respect to the presenter. Questions asked (if any) are off topic.
Poor/Incomplete
The student is completely distracted or is being a distraction to others showing no respect to the presenter. Questions asked (if any) are off topic.
