Student is absent the equivalent of 2 week of class and provides reasonable excuses.

Student is absent for the equivalent of 2 weeks of class and does not provide reasonable excuses.
Poor

POOR
Student is absent for the equivalent of 3 or more weeks of class.
PUNCTUALITY

Arrives to class AND on time.

Excellent

EXCELLENT
Student is on time regularly or early for class.
Good

GOOD
Student is usually on time or early (one or two tardies).
Fair

FAIR
Student is sometimes on time (three or four tardies).
Poor

POOR
Student is often late, four or more times.
LEVEL OF ENGAGEMENT AND BEHAVIOR

Quality participation in class

Excellent

EXCELLENT
Student brings original thought and persepctive to discussion. Maintains active involvement throughout semester.

Student sometimes asks questions, and participates in discussions.

Student rarely participates in class, struggles with discussions. Comments are often uninformed and rely on personal taste.

POOR
Student never participates in class, does not participate in discussions. Comments, when offered, are often uninformed and rely on personal taste.
PREPARATION

Brings materials and completes assigned readings.

EXCELLENT
Student is always prepared for class with assignments and has clearly read the assigned materials.
Good

GOOD
Student is usually prepared for class with assignments and required materials, possibly attempting to submit some materials late.
Fair

FAIR
Student is frequently unprepared for class with assignments and required materials, possibly attempting to submit some materials late.
Poor

POOR
Student is almost always unprepared for class with assignments and required materials, possibly attempting to submit some materials late.
