The main topic is not clearly stated. The sentence has more than 3 structural errors.
STEP#2:Supporting Details

Does the paragraph have sufficient supporting details?

EXCELLENT

The paragraph has at least 3 supporting details. All the examples are related to the topic.
GOOD

The student has written at least 3 supporting details. However, only 2 examples are related to the topic.
FAIR

The student has written at least 3 supporting details. However, only 1 example is related to the topic.
NEEDS WORK

The examples have no relevance to the topic.
STEP#3:Organization

Is the paragraph well organized?

EXCELLENT

The paragraph has a topic sentence, detail sentences in a logical order, and a concluding sentence.
GOOD

The paragraph is missing either the topic sentence or concluding sentence. Details are in a logical order.
FAIR

The paragraph is missing both topic sentence and concluding sentence. Details are somewhat logically organized.
NEEDS WORK

The paragraph is missing both topic and concluding sentences and the details are not in a logical order.
STEP#4:Sentence Structure

Does the paragraph have good sentence structure?

EXCELLENT

The writing has a good flow with strong varied sentence structures. There is mastery of compound and complex sentence structures.
GOOD

There is some variety in sentence structure and are mostly constructed correctly. There are no more than 2-3 errors in sentence structure.
FAIR

The sentence structures are simple and lack complexity. There are 3-4 sentence structure errors.
NEEDS WORK

Sentences do not make sense, ramble, begin the same way. There are too many run-on and comma-splice sentences.
STEP#5: Grammar & Punct./Capt.

Are grammar and writing conventions used accurately?

EXCELLENT

The paragraph has no errors in subject/verb agreement, verb tense, number, pronoun references, and no misspelled words. There are no capitalization errors.

pronoun reference, and/or more than 6 misspelled words. There are more than 4 capitalization errors.
