Elements of design Enter criteria description	Poor The student did the minimum or the art portion was never completed. Showed little evidence of any understanding of art elements and/or principles.	Fair The student did the assignment adequately, yet it shows lack of planning and little evidence that an overall project was planned.	Good The artwork shows that the student applied the principles of art while using a mixture of art elements and principles effectively; showed an awareness for composition, scale, design.	Excellent Planned carefully, made and showed an awareness of the elements and principles associated with art. Applied elements associated with the theory as well as practice of art.
Creativity and originality Enter criteria description	Poor The student fulfilled the assignment, but ave no evidence of trying anything unusual. There was very little evidence of original thought.	Fair The student presented his/her idea with some originality and creativity, with some evidence of original thought.	Good The student presented his/her idea in a considerably original manner with a fair amount of creativity.	Excellent The student explored different ideas before producing his/her art work. Finished product shows high degree of originality and creativity.
Effort/Perseverance Enter criteria description	Poor The student did not put forth effort in completing the assignment and showed below average craftsmanship.	Fair The student finished the project, but could have been improved with more effort. The assignment showed adequate craftsmanship.	Good The student worked diligently with considerable effort to complete the art work. The assignment showed a fair amount of craftsmanship.	Excellent The student worked with consistent effort to complete the art work. The assignment shows a high degree of craftsmanship.
