Skill with media-craftsmanship
1 pts

Students skill level using x-acto knifes, scissors, drawing and gluing pieces.

Failed

Student only cut one shape per side. Cuts from x-acto knife and scissors are of poor quality. Did not glue any pieces onto white paper.
Needs Improvement

Student only cut a few shapes per side. Limited knowledge on how to use an x-acto knife. Some pieces are missing. Needed help using a ruler and centering a square on a piece of paper.
Average

Craftsmanship and skill need improvement. Jagged edges and tears from x-acto knife. Square is inaccurately centered on paper.
Good

Craftsmanship is good. Placement of shapes versus space is successful. Only small amounts of glue can be seen.
Excellent

Craftsmanship is excellent, no unwanted glue, cuts from x-acto are crisp and clear, no tears in paper. Stellar craftsmanship. Self motivated.

Organizational Skills
1 pts

Organized and creative

Failed

Student did not organize the few pieces that were cut. Failed to develop the four sides. Failed to stay organize
Needs Improvement

Student did not make envelopes to keep quadrants organized and did not draw a square in the center of the white paper to help organize pieces. Some pieces are flipped and do not mirror each other or are placed in the wrong spot. Missing pieces.
Average

Student had to be reminded and assisted in making envelopes to keep quadrants organized. Had trouble keeping pieces in the correct envelopes. Student was confused at times as to where to place pieces.
Good

Made four envelopes to keep quadrants organized. Center square in the middle of the white paper and glued and placed pieces on the correct side so Notan looks complete and organized. Self motivated.
Excellent

Did not need to be told to organize pieces for this project, made four envelopes and kept all four sides separate. Self motivated.

Understands
1 pts

Understands Positive and Negative space - design concepts - symmetry, asymmetry - organic and geometric shapes.

Failed

Did not engage in gluing down the few pieces that were cut, therefor unable to understand negative and positive space. Student does not demonstrate overall concept of shape and space, negative and positive design. Also fails to recognize geometric and organic shapes as well as symmetry and asymmetry.
Needs Improvement

Needs improvement on overall concept of shape and space, negative and positive design. Also needs improvement with geometric and organic shapes as well as symmetry and asymmetry.
Needs improvement with overall design.
Average

Understanding of symmetry and asymmetry as well as geometric shapes and organic shapes. Student is in the process of grasping shape and space and negative and positive design. Had student developed more ideas for this assignment, his or her project would have been more successful.
Good

Good design has a balance of light and dark. Using the concept of light and dark enhances design. Good understanding of symmetry and asymmetry and space and shape. Recognizes balance in a composition.
Excellent

Excellent design has an understanding of positive and negative - Space and Shape are balanced - used both organic and geometric shapes and if did not has a clear understanding of them. Explored many designs before settling on a final design. Excellent composition. Self motivated.

Effort
1 pts

Took time to complete project, good use of class time and cleaning work area.

Failed

Inefficient use of class time. Student never cleans up after self and leaves abruptly when bell rings for dismissal.
Needs Improvement

Student struggled with time management and had to be reminded to keep working. Student must be reminded to clean up after each class.
Average

Worked on project in class, but had to be asked to stay on task often. Average use of time management. Student needs to be reminded to clean up work area at the end of each class.
Good

Made good use of class time and spent time outside of class when needed to complete this project. Work area neat and clean at the end of each class. Self motivated.
Excellent

Went above and beyond, use class time efficiently and spent time outside of class to complete an excellent project. Work area always neat and clean at end of each class. Self motivated.

Attitude and Behavior (in class).

Failed

Poor behavior and attitude in class, negative role modeling. Gave up quickly and showed no signs of problem solving. Did not ask teacher for help. Not committed to the class peers or interested in learning project. Invested in interrupting the class instead.
Needs Improvement

Involved with other students who gave up quickly instead of trying to problem solve with students who had a better understanding of project. Did not ask teacher for help.
Average

Involved with others in class who struggle staying on task, then when frustrated with his/her own time management leaned on students who were more successful with project. 50/50 with staying positive throughout project.
Good

Stayed positive and willing to learn. Problem solved with others in the class to better understand assignment. Good attitude towards learning. Self motivated.
Excellent

Excellent attitude and mature behavior. Assisted other students who needed help. Positive role modeling. Able to teach what student learned about this project to others. Enthusiastic attitude towards learning. Self motivated.
