Essay/Short Response Rubric Essay/Short Response Rubric Students will be evaluated by the following rubric when asked to anwer a short response question/or Essay question on a writing prompt. Short Responses
	Incomplete 2 pts	Good 3 pts	Thorough 4 pts	Excellent 5 pts
Complete Answers	Incomplete Answers does not include all required parts. Thoughts are typically incomplete.	Good Addresses a few critical parts of the original question and/or complete sentences are used in the restatement of the original question to begin the response.	Thorough Addresses most critical parts of the original question and complete sentences are used in the restatement of the original question to begin the response.	Excellent Addresses all critical parts of the original question and complete sentences are used in the restatement of the original question to begin the response.
Details and evidence	Incomplete Few details are provided to support the response.	Good The student attempts to use few details to support their response, but not much supporting evidence present.	Thorough The student uses some details to support their response and focuses on some supporting evidence from the texts discussed in class.	Excellent The student uses all details possible support their response and focus on specific supporting evidence from the texts discussed in class.
Clarity of Response	Incomplete The answer is not clear. Poorly organized answers. Many spelling and grammar mistakes that interfere with clarity.	Good The answers are not clear at times. Some are poorly organized and hard to understand.	Thorough The writing is clear and communicates ideas well. Few grammar and spelling mistakes.	Excellent Student responses are clear and communicated/organized very well. No grammar and spelling mistakes. 2 complete paragraphs with thorough explanation.
