Plot/Structure

NO EXPOSITION! The play opens in the middle of action, and there is some type of closure at the end.

Excellent

You have a good working structure to the plot with a beginning, middle and end.
Good

The structure is evident
Satisfactory

It is not fully structured, but the plot premise is there.
Needs Improvement

Beginning, middle or end is completely absent
Dialogue and Action

All dialogue is active and all action moves the plot.

Excellent

CHARACTERS SPEAK TO GET WHAT THEY WANT. All characters have DESIRES, and the characters only speak to fulfill their desires. On other hand, DON’T WASTE TIME TALKING ABOUT ANYTHING YOU CAN SHOW. Images are more powerful than words! The dialogue is realistic and interesting (dialogue overlaps, cuts off, is rhythmic, sub-textual).
Good

Many moments of action and dialogue were centered around the main theme of the story
Satisfactory

Only a FEW moments and action and dialogue were centered around the main theme and story
Needs Improvement

NONE of the moments of action and dialogue were centered around the main theme and story.
Characters

Every character is essential to the plot

Excellent

CHARACTERS are OFF-BALANCE IN SOME WAY. Real characters are excessive in some areas and deficient in others. This is what makes a character layered and interesting. Fears, interests, and personality are explored, and characters are unique. Each character has a clear voice uniquely their own. Each character has a reason to be in the scene.
Good

Characters were at least three of the following strong, interesting, unique and well defined.
Satisfactory

Characters were at least two of the following-strong, interesting, unique and well defined.
Needs Improvement

Characters were not strong, interesting, unique or well defined.
Met Requirements

Written in proper stage play format with character list and descriptions

Excellent

Play is 6-12 pages, meets all the required formatting, and has no grammatical errors.
Good

Play is 6-12 pages, meets all the required formatting, and has minimal grammatical errors.
Satisfactory

Play is more or less than 6-12 pages but could be edited required length. Meets all the required formatting, and has minimal grammatical errors.
Needs Improvement

Play is considerably more or less than 6-12 pages and/or does not meet all the required formatting, and has minimal grammatical errors
