	Poor 0 pts	Fair 5 pts	Good 10 pts
Personal Response	Poor Student does not extend personal responses.	Fair Student extends personal response but does not explain in enough detail and does not explain reactions to text in enough detail.	Good Student extends personal response and explains basic and initial reactions in some detail.
Evaluation of Text	Poor Student only gives summation of the text.	Fair Student expresses personal point of view but does not back up view with examples.	Good Student makes evaluations/judgments of text and backs up personal point of view with examples from text.
Clarity	Poor Journal shows lack of effort, and is below the student level of writing with no pictures.	Fair Journals are done with some effort, and are sometimes at the level of student ability with a few pictures.	Good Journals show effort, and are up to the student level of writing with support from pictures.
