Ideas and Content	0 Ideas are unclear and do not support the main idea. The writer doesn't make an effort to address the topic.	1 Ideas are there, but they do not always support the topic. The writer discusses random ideas and does not make a strong effort to address the topic.	2 The writer makes an effort to support the topic but sometimes sentences are irrelevant and incomplete. Ideas and details are predictable and basic.	3 The support generally addresses the topic, though some of the ideas are not specific to topic. Ideas and insights are predictable and basic.	4 The support clearly addresses the topic. Ideas are relevant and focused, and author uses personal insight and resources in order to go beyond the predictable.
Conventions	0 Reader finds it difficult to read due to errors in punctuation, spelling, capitalization and grammatical errors.	1 Punctuation is present, though not always correct. There are many spelling and capitalization errors are high. Paragraph breaks are random and interfere with the reading of the writing.	2 More than 3 errors in spelling, capitalization, and/or grammar that interfere with the meaning of the writing. Paragraphs run together without any effective breaks.	3 Spelling is correct for the most part including less then 3 spelling errors. Capitalization is correct, and paragraph breaks are consistent and generally support the writing. Occasional grammatical errors.	4 Punctuation leads the reader through the writing without hesitation. Correct grammar and capitalization is used with correct spelling of challenging words.
Organization (5 Paragraph Format)	0 Transitions are not used, and writing does not follow any organization pattern. There isn't any structure to the writing.	1 Structure is not appropriate for writing. Beginning and conclusion are not evident. Transitions are poorly chosen and do not support the writing.	2 Poor organization of the text and inproper structure. The beginning and conclusion are poorly developed. Transitions are weak and overused.	3 The structure of the writing is evident and fits the purpose of the writing. Beginning and conclusion are evident, though not inviting or strong. Transitions are also evident, though more variety needs to be used.	4 The structure progresses the writing. The beginning is inviting and the conclusion is appeasing. Transitions used connect the sentences and paragraphs of the writing at an appropriate pace.
