Meaning and Originality
Level 1 (50-59%)
The poem is not creative, and appears to be rushed. This is evident in too obvious meaning and a lack of originality.
Level 2 (60-69%)
The poem is creative, but appears to be rushed. This is evident in the poet's redundancy or use of cliches.
Level 3 (70-79%)
Poem is thoughtful and creative. A couple of phrases or ideas may be revisited, but the overall product is carefully written.
Level 4 (80-100%)
Poem is creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into their words and innovatively conveyed their ideas and emotions.
Form
Level 1 (50-59%)
Poem strays significantly from proper form.
Level 2 (60-69%)
Poem strays somewhat from proper form, but form is still identifiable.
Level 3 (70-79%)
Poem is mostly written in the proper forms.
Level 4 (80-100%)
Poem is complete and follows its intended form.
Grammar
Level 1 (50-59%)
The poet's intended meaning is muddled by several spelling or grammar errors. Punctuation may be misused.
Level 2 (60-69%)
3-4 spelling or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish the meaning of the poem. Punctuation is usually utilized when necessary.
Level 3 (70-79%)
1-2 spelling or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish the meaning of the poem. Punctuation is utilized when necessary.
Level 4 (80-100%)
Proper use of modern English spelling and grammar is employed consistently throughout the poem. Punctuation is utilized when necessary.
Visual Appeal
Level 1 (50-59%)
The poem is acceptably attractive, though it may be a bit messy in terms of design and layout.
Level 2 (60-69%)
The poem is moderately attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness.
Level 3 (70-79%)
The poem is attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness.
Level 4 (80-100%)
The poem is exceptionally attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness.
Word Choice
Level 1 (50-59%)
General or ordinary words are used.
Level 2 (60-69%)
Attempts new words with limited success
Level 3 (70-79%)
Attempts to use descriptive words to create images. Experiments with new and different words with some success.
