Ideas	Level 4 The writing makes sense. There are enough reasons, details or facts with explanations to support the topic.	Level 3 The reasons, details or facts and explanations support the topic except for one part.	Level 2 Many of the reasons, details or facts do not support the topic. There is little detail as well.	Level 1 The reasons, details or facts are unclear and do not support the topic. There are no details.
Organization	Level 4 The topic sentence is clearly written. The ideas or organized and make sense.	Level 3 Most, but not all, of the details are in a logical order that makes sense.	Level 2 Some of the details are not in a logical order and it is difficult to read.	Level 1 The writing does not make sense.
Well Chosen Words	Level 4 The writer uses many"juicy", descriptive words and phrases that show, not tell, about the idea.	Level 3 The writer uses some "juicy", descriptive words.	Level 2 The writer is clear but the words are ordinary.	Level 1 The writer is not clear with the words used.
