Quote / Response Relationship	Poor Your response has no connection to the quote.	Fair Your response is somewhat connected to the quote.	Good Your response is mostly connected to the quote.	Excellent Your response is deeply connected to the quote.
Depth (Thoughtfulness) of Response	Poor Your response demonstrates no thought or depth.	Fair Your response demonstrates some thought and depth.	Good Your response is very thoughtful. You have obviously made an effort to reflect on the quote and build upon it in your response.	Excellent Your response is deeply thoughtful. Your writing connects to the quote completely and you have written an imaginative response.
Organization	Poor Your response has no organization and is difficult to understand.	Fair Your response has very little organization and is difficult to understand.	Good Your response is mostly well-organized and is fairly easy to understand.	Excellent Your response is very well-organized which makes it easy to understand.
Spelling / Grammar / Neatness	Poor Your writing is sloppy and has many spelling and grammar mistakes. You have made no effort to correct obvious mistakes.	Fair Your writing has several errors in grammar and spelling which make the response difficult to understand.	Good Your writing has a few errors in spelling and/or grammar.
