First grade had to create one (1) animal from a group that was assigned during class, and tell me all about it. The animal should be placed in a model of its natural surrounding/habitat (where it lives or can be naturally found). The student should tell me all about the animal, including the group that it’s in, the food that it eats, where it lives, and any interesting facts that he/she wants to share with the class.

Students will demonstrate their knowledge of paragraph organization by writing a 5-paragraph essay utilizing the writing process of planning, organizing, writing, evaluating and revising. Specifically, students will write about important people who have had a profound effect upon their lives.

To learn about the characteristics of the planets that orbit our sun, to create an informational guide for others, and present material in a slide show presentation.

Students will be writing an 800-1,000 word creative writing piece focusing on the environment. They must take into consideration the "hallmarks of environmental writing" that we've been using to analyze other writers.

Teams will demonstrate the ability to differentiate between fact and fiction as part of the problem solving process for a given scenario. (Debate-style team activity) the students would also defend their own group according to the scenario given to them.

Prior to the live debate, students will research and utilize resources to format the fact/fiction items that they will persuade the other team to accept. (Team 1 will argue, YES genetic engineering is valuable. Team 2 will argue, NO genetic engineering is NOT valuable.)
