Letter to a Character
Students write a letter to Zinnia from the story "Zinnia and Dot." They will create another possible problem that could possibly happen to Zinnia and Dot in the future. Students can write a possible solution as to how they can cooperate to solve another problem.

Ellis Island Role-Play Experience

Ellis Island Flip Book
Students will work in cooperative groups and read one immigrant's voyage to the US and through Ellis Island. Each member will complete one page of the flip-book and later will present it to the class.

Interview with an Immigrant and Comparing with a Partner
Students will interview an immigrant they know (family, friend, staff member). The students compose 5 questions themselves, and teacher provides 2 more questions to ask interviewee. When they get back to class, students will compare/contrast the responses that they received with a partner's responses.
