Connected Math: Variables and Patterns, Investigation 2
In Investigation 1, students are asked to analyze tables and graphs and develop understandings of the relationships between variables.
Grade levels:
6-8
slevine4
10
Connected Math: Variables and Patterns, Investigation 1
In Investigation 1, students are asked to create tables using their own data. They then must convert these tables into coordinate graphs, and use critical thinking to interpret patterns. As the investigation continues, students hone their skills through converting between tables and graphs, identifying dependent and independent variables, and verbally describing the patterns that emerge.

The Mathemagician's Apprentice
In this project, students explore a mathematical "magic trick" and they must determine how it works through algebra.
Grade levels:
6-8
slevine4
12
Probability Investigation
In this project, students explore experimental probability through rolling dice and designing two games. They use their intuitive thinking to reason about probability.
Grade levels:
6-8
slevine4
13
Exponent Laws
In this project, students create visual representations of exponent laws to demonstrate how they work.
Grade levels:
6-8

14
Budgeting for the Future Project
In this project, students conduct research to find out what their future holds. Students must create a list of major life expenses and determine whether their career of choice is viable, and whether or not it will allow them to afford their lifestyle.
Grade levels:
6-8
slevine4
15
Order of Operations: Arch
In this project, students examine an equation to determine the height of an arch at different distances from the base. Students must calculate the height from three different distances, and explain the order in which they performed the operations in the equation. Students will then examine an equivalent equation and explore how the order of operations changes.
Grade levels:
6-8
slevine4
16
Graphing Linear Equations: Stained Glass
In this project, students must graph 12 linear equations on a coordinate plane in order to create a "stained glass" pattern. Students will choose 12 of 24 linear equations, create t-tables to find at least 3 points for each equation, and graph the corresponding line for that equation. All lines must be clearly labeled with the appropriate equation.
Grade levels:
6-8
slevine4
17
Graphing: What's the Point? 2
In this project, students must graph a variety of points on the coordinate plane in order to reveal a secret message, shape, or picture. Students may choose 1 of 3 sets of points to graph.
Grade levels:
6-8
slevine4
18
Graphing: What's the Point? 1
In this project, students must graph a variety of points on the coordinate plane in order to reveal a secret message, shape, or picture. Students may choose 1 of 3 sets of points to graph.
Grade levels:
6-8

19
Geometry Transformations
In this project, students must perform multiple transformations on a shape on the coordinate plane. They must provide coordinates for the final locations of the shapes after all transformations have been performed.
Grade levels:
6-8
slevine4
20
Solving Equations: Explanations
In this project, students analyze a multi-step algebraic equation that has already been solved. Students must provide explanations for the work provided, come up with a new solution, and prove that their work is correct.
