5th Grade Feature Article
Students will write a 2-3 page feature article on a topic of their choice. The feature may include a small picture or two, but the main purpose is to inform their audience. The feature will contain an introduction, and at least two subheadings.

5th Grade Photo Essay Rubric
Students will create a two-three page photo essay on a topic of their choice, which will predominately feature interesting pictures 2-4 a page) with captions and/or short explanations of what the photo is about.

Oral Presentation- Nonfiction Book Report 8 due 3/1/11
Students will give a short oral presentation to the class on their nonfiction book using note cards. They will give the title of the book, author, and at least 8 or more interesting facts they learned from the book in a logical, sequential manner. Following their presentation they will answer two questions to clarify listeners' questions. As a listener themselves, they will not distract others or cause any disturbance while a peer is presenting. If they ask a question, it will be related to the information presented, not a general question.

Oral Presentation- Nonfiction Book Report 8 due 3/1/11
Students will give a short presentation to the class on their nonfiction book of at least 200 pages. Students will start with a 4-sentence summary which begins with a topic sentence. Students will then demonstrate understanding of the terms studied in class, explaining the author's purpose, text type (expository, narrative, persuasive or technical) overall text structure, and giving examples (w/ p#) of any text features (boldface, maps, glossary, diagram etc). Students will also find examples in the text of problem/solution, cause/effect, description, compare/contrast, question/answer, and sequence. Students are required to bring their book and hand in this self-graded rubric before their presentation on Tuesday, March 1. 10 points will be deducted for students who do not hand in this rubric before their presentation, or do not have their books with them for the presentation.
