Feel free to link ideas from across other music, philosophy and film in your effort to build an effective argument, but your focus on the AP IR text must be central. Persuasion is writing or speaking that tries to convince people to agree with a writer's perspective. Write a persuasive letter as one of the characters from "TMBV" expressing your views on the veil that the minster wears.

This rubric is for evaluating argument essays and the ability to formulate argumentative writings Emerson's essays have stirred argument and inspired admiration. Now it's your turn to add your voice. Write an argument expressing your feelings on the topic of prayer in schools.

Students will write a short essay on symbolism found in the short story "The Minister's Black Veil".

Essay of Literary Analysis on AP IR text that uses concrete details and textual evidence to support a thesis that is drawn from one particular literary critical theory.

Assignment: Identify and explain a key literary techniques (plot development, character development, setting, literary devices - imagery, symbolism, irony, etc.) used in the novel. Explain how it is used, citing specific examples from the novel. Explain why the technique is important to the novel.

Students write short responses to 3 short stories.

Students will compose a 3-5 (Double-spaced, Times New Roman, typed essay) that explores on of the essential themes in The Crucible: Fear, Privacy, Choice, Power. Students will explore how the Author depicts these themes through the actions of the characters. Students will support their claims with quotations from the text. Due Friday, Dec 21st 2012

Book Talk Rubric -Independent Reading Favorite Book Students will write and orally present a book talk on one of their favorite independent reading books. Students will persuade other students, by clearly and concisely piquing the interest of peers in a solid hook and focused and interesting summary that closes with a definite opinion with support for reading and enjoying the book. Colorful language and confident speaking will enhance your persuasion.

This rubric assesses student performance on essay question. The required number of sentences/paragraphs are indicated on the test.

Students will demonstrate their knowledge of paragraph organization by writing a 5-paragraph essay utilizing the writing process of planning, organizing, writing, evaluating and revising.

English 1010 5 page, typed paper, double spaced, 12 point font following MLA guidelines. Include a Works Cited page citing at least 5 resources used researching the paper. Paper will be graded on quality of research to support the topic, effective use of information gained through research, credibility of sources, content, grammar and mechanics, and citations (both in-text and Works Cited page).
