Students select Alaska marine animal, researching, and writing a report about their animal, designing PowerPoint to aid them in their presentation. The student will learn and should tell: the name (genus/species/common name), location (where it lives-ecosystem), diet, reproduction, socialization, and behavioral & physical adaptations. Students should write their report notes on index cards to help them remember the important facts about their animal during their presentation.

Students created an essay that informs the reader about a topic that the author is familiar with or has researched. Students will read their published essays to the class. This was completed through the four step writing process.

Write sentences using figurative language with a chosen word specific to an assigned holiday. Incorporate the elements of poetry we discussed in class. Grammar should be used correctly; if you use slang, the grammar should be appropriate for the topic.

Write a "Dear Hero" letter in friendly letter format. Use the All Write book pg. 121 as reference for required elements. Conventions count.

A paragraph is a group of sentences developing one topic. This rubric will assess how well students develop the topic and support main ideas within a written paragraph, while following directions.

As a cartographer students are to fill in some additional details not shown on map. They are to add major political and physical features and name them. They are to refer to an atlas or other resource material. Neatness when labeling and drawing in details is crucial. Use colored pencils.
