Rubric for Short Story Article Project

This is a rubric determining on how well each short story was written.

Students are to write a short story that demonstrates their understanding of the stages of plot and the characteristics of a short story.

Students read a book of choice and write a critical book review (1000 character OR 13-line limit) for posting on our school's Destiny online catalog.

Rubric to assess students' ability to construct a critical essay that uses textual evidence to defend an argument. This rubric is based on a 25 point assessment.

Students chose a book they've read independently to review. The review incorporates information about the book's characters, setting, plot, genre, theme, and writing style. These reviews were uploaded to our school's Destiny online library catalog.

This rubric must be turned in with your assignment

For 10% of your grade, you are required to read and write a letter to me about two books that you read in addition to what we read in our Reading class, per quarter. Your letter must contain a plot summary, a description of the setting, a comparison/contrast of you and any main character in the text, as well as questions that you had as you read the story, and, finally, whether you would recommend the story to me or to a friend and why....
