Students are then taught perceptional skills based on Betty Edwards Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain activities that give then knowledge in re-drawing the same subject matters using teachable skills. Students are to use these pre-assessments as a comparison tools after drawing instruction provided during this unit

Students will choose a specific topic to write a poem about. The students create a poem that contains 4 stanzas with 4 lines in each stanza. The poem should tell about a problem or hardship endured or currently enduring. The poem does not have to have a particular rhyme scheme; it may be free verse. The student will type their poem and paste it onto a piece of construction paper. The poem should include a symbol that represents the poem.
